It's a bit nippy out, right? But this is good. I get to hide inside with T and make things. That's right folks, winter is here! Hooray I say. Here's my top 6 things I heart about winter:
1. My fiance-beyonce (Toby, not actually beyonce)
Toby is awesome at this time of year, always the firhst to suggest pulling out the sofa bed and getting down the duvet. Always the first to suggest cooking a curry or a soup or something warm. Always waking me up a little later than he should so the heating has time to warm up. And always getting me the best xmas gifties ever.
2. Planning & Writing
It's the start of a new year and that means my planning goes into overdrive. I can always rely on Tobes to get me a note book or two at Xmas - which is good as the rest of mine are pretty full by now. There's nothing I like more than a new notebook and a new idea. Writing comes easier in the Winter. The stillness and the low light. I think thats why.
3. Baking & Making
We hand make all our xmas gifts, this is the 3rd xmas we've done it. Not to each other, just to friends and family. We plan what we're making and Tobes puts aside some time in his busy work schedule to get a bit messy and make some food and cakes. This year we have a whole heap of new things to try. I'm dead excited!
4. Long nights & Sky premier!
You can always rely on winter for some good premiers. Last week we had Zombieland and 2012 amoungst the pile on our planner. I love a good disaster movie. Love it. 2012 is one of the best! Zombieland is amazing, not the american Shawn of the Dead, an entity in its own right. We also watched another film with Chris Pine (the new Captain Kirk) about a zombie-esque infection, it was a bit pap but made me want to watch better versions like 28 days later!
5. Christmas morning
We get up early, have stockings in bed, have a big brekkie and then open gifts. We usually stay in our PJ's for as much of the day as possible. Its the day for family and right now we are a family of two. I count brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers as extended family and love them all the same but me and toby are family and until that grows he's all I need for christmas.
6. Our anniversary
January 4th 2006, me a bit drunk, him a bit sober. Cold night, long chat outside the old Norwich Union building. We decide to give it a shot. Never has a better decision been made.
Happy winter everyone, hope you have your own list of reasons to love the season of loving.
x i am magpie x
Its getting closer to Christmas and I am writing my list to Santa T... this year it's a long old list! Also at Magpie HQ I am prepping for my craft fair and thought I would share some lovely piccies of my products and production line!
Have 2 amazing craft markets coming up soon - very soon!
The Handm@de Winchester event at Winchester Guildhall is this Saturday the 13th Novemeber, free entry into the guildhall and loads of great handmade stalls featuring ME!!
The following week another in Winchester - the high street Art & craft sunday 21st.
Come on down to either! New products will be on show!
On another note, I have been crafting away coming up with new ideas and getting them all made for weeks now so I have plenty to show off, and doing some awesome bespoke things too - if you want anything bespoke let me know! firstname.lastname@example.org
I know its quite a while until Christmas still but I thought there's no harm in starting a bit early!
These little packs have everything a child would need to get their Christmas letter to Santa started! With a sheet of note paper, stamped and address envelope and return address slip with another stamp their letter to Santa will certainly stand out!
So boys and girls - Sunday was my FIRST EVER Craft Market! After an early start and a long day I was exhausted but it was fun! We got to speak to a lot of people about our products and I was really pleased with the reaction. Next time I think we're going to re-think our pricing structure and I think we will have some new products for the up-coming festive season! Hope you enjoyed the pictures! I am one pleased little magpie!
Aren't these amazing? I want one so so badly... the twee and the sleek and the fun and the awesomeness... good findings design milk... this is why I check my rss feeds continually through my days...! Nice!
I had a weird time in Lisbon - but in the end on reflection it was great because I was with T and we always have fun! I am back now and having some 'what if it doesn't work' thoughts but I have to push on through and make it work right? So I decided that I was taking it all far too seriously and that's not me so I am doing a NEW PLAN.... dur dur duuuuuur! We will see but in the mean time here's a few piccies of my Lisboa trip and my 2 favourite things I bought there!
My website is about to go live and I will be posting pictures of my prints and things in the next few days but for now enjoy! x
I am getting closer to my new beginnings - my range of stationery and prints to be sold on etsy.com and folksy.com are in the process of being printed. I am developing a pdf brochure and finishing up my website to display my goods. Its all very exciting and new and scary but positive mental attitude will win me thinks. In the mean time I am going to have my cherry coke and watch Saving Private Ryan in the background as I do some work. LOVE disaster/war/hopelessness in a movie...! Good times.
I am Magpie designs is pleased to be FINALLY close to our launch date! When we're ready I will be posting pictures and details but for now I am excited and ready to get going!
I have had 6 years experience in design and I got bored of the corporate design my work and prefer the illustration work I do for myself and friends so I bit the bullet, quit my job, and am sinking my teeth into my own stuff. I will be producing bespoke and ready made stationery including: note-cards, writing sets, poster prints, invitations and event stationery!
